Peccioli Unpaved

Ride through landscape, history and art. A circular gravel and MTB route in the Pisa countryside, developed from my guiding thesis.

Landscape, history and art. On two wheels.

A route for understanding the landscape through the ride: dirt roads, ridgelines and rural scenery, with stops to discover nature and local stories.

The route

The proposal starts and finishes in Peccioli. My thesis project connects the Valdera hills, the landscapes around Ghizzano and Fabbrica and traces of local history, including Ortaglia and Santa Mustiola.

The stops are part of the journey

Observe the landforms, recognise a habitat, discover traces of the Etruscans and explore Peccioli’s museum and artistic heritage. The bike connects these different ways of reading the landscape.

The project at a glance

Around 48 km and 840 m of climbing, with an indicative duration of 4–6 hours. Fitness requirements are moderate to demanding, with moderate technical difficulty. These are the figures from the thesis project; the route and arrangements are agreed before the ride.

Getting ready

A gravel or mountain bike, helmet, repair kit, water and a snack. Contact me to learn about the route and agree on the dates and the group.
